An Introduction To Weight Loss Systems

weight loss

There are a wide variety of weight loss systems out there today. What works for one person may not be the best choice for another. When choosing a strategy for dropping those extra pounds, it helps to investigate the different programs available and analyze your needs and preferences. For example, one question you'll need to answer is how much weight do you need to lose? For individuals who have an extra ten pounds or so to drop, the cheapest and most effective method might just be a healthy diet and regular exercise.

On the subject of diet, many believe if they skip meals or dramatically cut calories, the weight will come off. This is usually not the case. In fact, this strategy puts the body into starvation mode and makes it harder to lose weight. Eating six small meals that consist of healthy foods rather than three big ones keeps the metabolism operating at optimum speed. Adding exercise boosts the fat burning power of this type of diet. Also when you build lean muscle it improves metabolism function as well, allowing your body to burn fat even when at rest.

Then there are programs like Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers. These programs cost money, and are best suited for those who have a substantial amount of weight to lose and prefer a guided program with group support. Jenny Craig is based around the idea of controlling portions and calories, choosing the right foods, and taking advantage of helpful information and group support. Weight Watchers is also based around group support, however they use a points system, assigning each food a certain points value. Both Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers have their own prepackaged meals you can purchase.

There are also weight loss supplements on the market. These days most of them are all natural and do not contain harsh stimulants. For example, you can find supplements with ingredients like acai berry, chromium, green tea and amino acids. Hoodia is a supplement derived from a succulent plant in Africa proven to suppress the appetite. Regardless of which one of the weight loss systems you choose, it is unlikely to work unless you follow a healthy lifestyle plan. Regular exercise should be part of your life no matter how much you weigh. Your diet should consist of lots of produce, lean protein, low-fat dairy, healthy fat and whole grains rather than fried foods, white flour, sugar and packaged convenience foods.
