Healthy Weight Loss Diet
Everyone today is busy. Many homes are comprised of two working parents. Mom does not stay at home and cook any more. We tend to depend on convenience and fast foods and it is no wonder obesity is a growing problem even among children. There is an abundance of fad diets on the market and while they may work in the short term; they do not usually promote long term success. A healthy weight loss diet is going to benefit everyone in the family.
I think one thing that helps is to think of it as a lifestyle change rather than a diet. Diet kind of implies that you will use it, lose weight, and go back to your normal habits. Thats why most diets fail and people tend to yo-yo back and forth, which may also be harmful. Enlist a support system and involve the whole family meal planning and preparation. Join a weight loss group like Weight Watchers. You should aim for 1-2 pounds a week weight loss. There is no quick fix. It will also help to involve everyone in your family in getting more exercise. When I was a child; few kids were overweight. We did not have video games and TV was limited. We played outside, rode our bikes, chased each other, explored our surroundings, and went swimming.
Try not to rush through your meals, but enjoy them. Eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly. Use smaller plates and stop eating before you are stuffed. Most of us do not know what real hunger feels like. Try to eat mindfully without distractions like TV. We eat while we read, work, watch TV, or drive and hardly know weve had a meal. Some people find it helpful to keep a food journal in the beginning. I think all of us probably consume lots of calories we are not aware of and by writing it down; we get an idea of what to change. Dont be a slave to your scale. Weighing daily can be discouraging because of fluctuations. Weigh once a week and use the fit of your clothing to determine how you are doing. Dont eliminate entire food groups and allow yourself a treat in moderation so you wont get bored. No one on earth wants to eat a bowl of lettuce every single day.
If you eat a variety of foods, limit your portions of high calorie foods, eat whole grains, add more vegetables and fruit, and aim to eat lean meat and fish; you will be on your way to a healthier life. Think about when you were a child. There probably were not many processed foods around. You probably ate simpler and much more nutritious meals. We all need to get back to basics and a healthy weight loss diet will follow.
